Hurricanes 13U 10, Trumbull 0

Avery Shugrue fanned six batters over five innings and dominated at times to allow the Hurricanes to move to 5-1 on the year with a 10-0 mercy rule victory over Trumbull.  That gives Hamden a mercy rule victory in half of their games up to this point in the season.  At the plate the top of the order did much of the damage with Kwadir McIntyre, Trevor Brandi and Shugrue going a combined 6 of 9.  Shugrue's towering two run double started the ball rolling for the Hurricanes who would end up notching 13 hits on the night.  With a 4-0 lead in the bottom half of the 4th the game was certainly not in doubt until Connor Dow came up and laced a blast down the left field line plating Andrew Rice.  The Hurricanes used 5th inning singles from Tamir March and Damon Savenelli, both connecting on their first hits of the year, and back to back hit batters to put away Trumbull.  Shugrue improved to 2-0 on the year with the win while both Trevor Brandi and Kyle Brennan extended their hit streaks to six games.  The Canes are back at it Thursday night at the Sportsplex at 7 p.m. against the Branford Sting, the owners of the only victory over the Hurricanes this year.
