Hamden Wins 'War' Opener

The Hamden Hurricanes 13U won their opener in the 2012 War at the Shore Independence Day Tournament 9-6 over the CT Pirates Gold of the East Shore Travel Baseball League.  Tamir March earned the win in relief going three innings allowing two runs on three hits while striking out three and walking only one.  Jeremy Routh worked the first four innings allowing four Pirates runs while scattering three Pirates hits.  Routh struck out four.  Routh, Tyler Rowe and James Michaud led the hit parade for Hamden with two hits apiece.  The Canes poured out ten hits as a team while coaxing six walks in the victory.  Michaud and Avery Shugrue finished the day with two RBIs apiece.  The game saw four lead changes and was tied 6-6 in the sixth inning until Hamden was able to pull away.  Hamden finishes the pool play round of the tournament tomorrow at 9 a.m. against the Northeast Longhorns of Holliston, Massachusetts at Lyme Old Lyme High School.  Below you can find scores and standings after one day of play in the tournament.
