Hurricanes 16, Trumbull 1

The Hamden Hurricanes 13U bounced back in a big way against Trumbull Monday night at the Sportsplex winning 16-1.  Hamden pounded out 18 hits and received shut down pitching performances from Avery Shugrue (5 K's in 2 IP), Doug Shane (hitless third inning) and Tamir March (1 ER allowed in 2 IP).  At the dish, Hamden was led by Jeremy Routh who went 2 for 3 with two walks and five RBI's.  Avery Shugrue and Andrew Rice both added two doubles apiece while Trevor Brandi and Damon Savenelli both added three hits each as well.  Hamden wins this one in five innings due to the mercy rule and moves to 14-3-1 on the season.  With the win, Shugrue moves to 4-0 on the mound this year and boasts a microscopic 0.87 ERA.  Kyle Brennan returned to form going 2 for 2 at the plate while Doug Shane also added a double off the bench.  The Canes return to action Thursday night in Fairfield at Kiwanis Park against the Fairfield Rage.  Game starts at 6 p.m.
