Hurricanes 5, Branford Sting 1
The Hamden Hurricanes 13U improved to 12-2-1 on the season with a 5-1 win over the Branford Sting Monday night at the Sportsplex. Doug Shane (1-0) worked six crafty innings in his first appearance of the year to earn the victory while James Michaud came on to work a scoreless bottom half of the seventh. The Canes, while stellar defensively, struggled at the plate and were able to win the game on only three hits. Those came on timely singles from outfielder James Michaud, shortstop Andrew Rice and starting pitcher Doug Shane. Michaud would reach base safely in all four plate appearances (1B, 2 BB, HBP). The Canes showed patience at the plate, as well, walking eight times on the night. They return to action Wednesday, June 6th at Hamden Plains when they take on Goose's Gamers. The Hurricanes opened the season with a 4-3 victory over the Gamers and haven't met since.
