Hurricanes 9, Goose's Gamers 7
The winning ways continued Wednesday night for the Hurricanes 13U (13-2-1) despite a late rally from Goose's Gamers (7-5) as the boys in orange held on to win 9-7. Hamden was anchored by a strong pitching performance from Tyler Rowe and a three hit night from center fielder Andrew Kirschenbaum. The Goosers struck first in the top half of the third when a two out blooper fell just beyond the reach of second baseman Trevor Brandi plating two Gamers. Hamden would respond in grand fashion scoring nine runs in the bottom half of the inning on five hits, four walks and three Gamers errors. Hamden would only tally two more hits after the third inning but the nine runs plated in rather unconventional style would prove to be enough. The Goosers wouldn't go away however, scoring a lone unearned run in the fourth on an error, two in the sixth chasing starting pitcher Tyler Rowe in favor of James Michaud and trailing 9-5 in the seventh, plated two more Michaud runners inherited by relief pitcher Kyle Brennan. Brennan would give up two walks and single on the first three batters he faced but would get two flyouts to end the game and pick up his first save of the year in rather dramatic fashion. Hamden returns to action Sunday at the Sportsplex at 3 p.m. against the undefeated Wolcott Storm (6-0).
